$y+\frac{2}{y}$    $\Rightarrow $ $y+2 \cdot y^{-1}$

$\because $ $(-1)$ is not a whole number.

$\therefore $ $y +2 y ^{-1},$ i.e. $y +\frac{2}{ y }$ is not a polynomial.
